Kohima, March 7: The Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has announced a special ‘Women’s Public Hearing’ to address women’s complaints across the state in celebration of International Women’s Day. NSCW Chairperson W. Nginyeh Konyak shared details during a press conference on Saturday, stating that the event will take place from March 9 to 13, 2026, at the district level in all districts.
This initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW) in New Delhi, aimed at ensuring quick resolution of women’s complaints and access to justice nationwide. Konyak emphasized that this week-long campaign will provide women with a direct, accessible, and effective platform to voice their issues and receive institutional support.
The primary focus is to address complaints related to domestic violence, workplace sexual harassment, maternity benefits, eviction, trafficking, cyber crimes, marital rights, mental health issues, emotional abuse, gender-based discrimination and violence, welfare scheme-related problems, and other grievances concerning women’s safety, dignity, and rights.
A notable feature of the ‘Women’s Public Hearing’ is the provision for immediate hearings, registration of serious cases, legal advice, procedural assistance, and timely follow-ups. A special bench comprising NSCW Chairperson and members, district administration officials, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) representatives, police officers, legal experts, and protection officers will be present. Walk-in complaints will also be accepted, ensuring timely assistance for women from rural and remote areas.
Konyak stressed that this initiative is not merely a symbolic celebration but a concrete step towards real justice and empowerment. It aims to create a safe, respectful, and accountable ecosystem for women through collaborative efforts of state and national institutions. The program will be held in the DC conference halls of district headquarters to facilitate easy access.
The NSCW has urged all women in the state facing injustice to participate in these hearings without hesitation.
