Raipur, September 2: The Chhattisgarh government has announced a dry day on September 4 in honor of Krishna Janmashtami. On this day, all liquor shops, bars, hotels, and licensed establishments across the state will remain closed.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai shared this information on the social media platform X, stating that the dry day will be observed in celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth. He also instructed officials to closely monitor and take strict action against the illegal transport, storage, and sale of alcohol.
In his message, the Chief Minister urged residents to celebrate this auspicious festival with devotion, purity, and social harmony. He expressed hopes for happiness, peace, and prosperity in Chhattisgarh through the blessings of Lord Krishna.
According to an order issued by the Commercial Tax (Excise) Department, all retail liquor shops, restaurant bars, hotel bars, clubs, and other licensed establishments will be closed on September 4. Additionally, instructions have been given to shut down cannabis and bhang shops as well.
The government order clearly states that no hotel, restaurant, club, or other establishment will be permitted to sell or serve alcohol during the dry day. This restriction will also apply equally to non-member clubs, star hotels, and other private establishments.
The state government has directed officials to strictly prevent personal and illegal storage of alcohol during this period. Any storage of liquor in unlicensed premises will result in confiscation and legal action.
Furthermore, district offices, divisional flying squads, and state-level flying squad teams have been instructed to conduct special campaigns to prevent illegal transport, storage, and sale of alcohol. Inspections of potential locations and vehicles will be carried out, and offenders will face action under excise laws.
The Excise Department has mandated all relevant officials to ensure strict compliance with this order.
