Nagaland Completes Preparations for 2027 Census, Over 6,100 Personnel Trained

Kohima, June 18: Preparations for the 2027 Census in Nagaland have been finalized. Officials announced on Wednesday that 6,134 census personnel, including enumerators and supervisors, have been trained to ensure an accurate and inclusive survey of every household in the hilly state.

The Census Operations Director for Nagaland stated that a total of 6,134 personnel have been deployed for this task.

Currently, Nagaland comprises 17 districts, 118 sub-districts, 39 statutory towns, 5 census towns, and 1,606 villages, where the 2027 Census will be conducted.

The self-enumeration process began on June 16 and will continue until June 30, while the house listing and housing census phase is scheduled from July 1 to July 30, 2026.

Officials also warned that providing false information during the census is a punishable offense under the Census Act of 1948.

Highlighting the digital initiatives for the 2027 Census, they explained that data will be collected via a mobile application, and a self-enumeration option will be available for the public.

Additionally, a web-based portal will be utilized for monitoring and managing census activities, and house listing blocks will be created using a web-mapping application to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

The official assured that personal information collected during the census will be kept confidential under Section 15 of the Census Act. This effort is being carried out with the cooperation of state governments and other administrative units.

The last census was conducted in 2011, and the 2027 Census will mark India’s 16th census and the 8th since independence.

In response to media inquiries, the Census Operations Director expressed confidence in the accuracy of the data, stating that a comprehensive awareness campaign, in collaboration with community organizations, village authorities, and other stakeholders, will ensure the collection of accurate and reliable data.

As part of the awareness campaign, messages from the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Home Commissioner will be broadcast via All India Radio to encourage public participation and ensure complete coverage in the state.
