Nadal Arrives in Melbourne for Australian Open ‘Night of Legends’ Event

Melbourne witnessed the arrival of tennis legend and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal on Saturday, as he came to participate in the special ‘Night of Legends’ event. This event is scheduled on the day of the men’s singles final at the Australian Open 2025, where 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic will face World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.

Roland Garros shared a video of Nadal’s arrival on the social media platform X, commenting, “A familiar face spotted at the Australian Open.”

Though Nadal retired from professional tennis in 2024, he remains a beloved figure among fans, adding significant appeal to the Australian Open 2026.

Alongside Nadal, former world No. 1 Australian player Ashleigh Barty and Australian wheelchair tennis star Dylan Alcott will also feature in the ‘Night of Legends’ event. The special evening includes live music with a DJ and opportunities for fans to win prizes before the men’s singles final. Nadal is also expected to watch the women’s and men’s finals from the players’ box.

Nadal shares a deep connection with the Australian Open, having won the title twice, in 2009 and 2022, both times after intense five-set battles. The 2022 final was particularly historic, where Nadal staged a remarkable comeback from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev in a match lasting five hours and 24 minutes. His Australian Open record stands at 77 wins and 16 losses.

The 2012 final between Nadal and Djokovic is still remembered as the longest match in Australian Open history, lasting five hours and 53 minutes. Tennis greats such as Roger Federer, Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt, and Patrick Rafter have also made their mark at various events in this tournament over the years.
