The Government of India has announced the Padma Awards for the year 2026 ahead of Republic Day. Among the recipients is Chiranjee Lal Yadav from Muradabad, who has been honoured with the Padma Shri in the field of arts.
Chiranjee Lal Yadav has been devoted to the craft of handicrafts since 1970. Over the years, he has received numerous prestigious awards at both the national and state levels in recognition of his skill and dedication.
In an interaction with Daily Kiran, Yadav expressed his surprise at being selected for the Padma Shri award. He stated that he first learned about the announcement through the media and was soon flooded with congratulatory messages from well-wishers. “I never expected to be chosen for the Padma Shri. I am very happy. This award will bring recognition to my art across India,” he said.
Yadav also shared that he has actively participated in art exhibitions nationwide to showcase his craftsmanship. Additionally, he has provided training in handicrafts to children through skill development institutions, contributing to the preservation and promotion of traditional arts.
Expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yadav thanked him for acknowledging and encouraging artists like himself. He appreciated the government’s efforts to support people from all walks of life. Despite facing challenges and opposition over the years, he remained committed to his work. “This award will not only appreciate my efforts but also increase publicity and help expand my work,” he added.
The Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours, presented annually on Republic Day in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. These awards recognise distinguished service in various fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, and civil service. The Padma Vibhushan is given for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of a high order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.
