New Delhi, July 30 — The last date for submission of nominations/recommendations for this year’s Padma Awards has been extended from July 31 to August 15, 2025.

According to a release by the Ministry of Home Affairs, nominations or recommendations for the Padma Awards must be submitted online only through the National Awards Portal (https://awards.gov.in). The nomination process for the Padma Awards 2026, which are to be announced on Republic Day 2026, began on March 15 this year and was earlier scheduled to conclude on Thursday (July 31).
The Padma Awards — namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — are among the highest civilian honours in the country. Instituted in 1954, these awards are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day. They are conferred for “distinguished service” in various fields.
The Padma Awards recognise exceptional and distinguished achievements or service across a wide range of fields, including art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry, among others. All persons, regardless of caste, profession, position, or gender, are eligible for these honours. However, except for doctors and scientists, government servants — including employees of public sector undertakings — are not eligible for the Padma Awards.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the government is committed to making the Padma Awards “People’s Padma”. Citizens are therefore encouraged to submit nominations and recommendations. Individuals may also nominate themselves. Special efforts may be made to identify talented individuals from among women, weaker sections of society, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, persons with disabilities, and those engaged in selfless service to society, whose excellence and achievements truly deserve recognition.
The nominations or recommendations must include all relevant details in the format available on the portal, along with a citation (maximum 800 words) describing the distinguished and exceptional achievements or service of the recommended individual in their respective field or discipline.
Detailed information in this regard is available on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) under the ‘Awards and Medals’ section, as well as on the Padma Awards portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in). Rules and other details related to these awards can be found at https://padmaawards.gov.in/AboutAwards.aspx.
