Mumbai Indians vs. Kolkata Knight Riders: A Historic IPL Rivalry

New Delhi, March 28: The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this Sunday. In their storied rivalry, a total of 35 matches have been played, with Mumbai Indians holding a significant advantage. They have won 24 matches against KKR, while the latter has managed to secure only 11 victories.

In the years 2008 and 2009, Mumbai Indians dominated KKR, winning all four encounters. However, in 2010, MI faced defeat in one of the two matches against KKR. The following year, Mumbai Indians emerged victorious in both contests.

In 2012, MI recorded one win and one loss against KKR. The trend continued in 2013 when Mumbai won both matches. Between 2014 and 2015, the two teams faced off four times, with KKR winning three of those matches.

From 2016 to 2018, Mumbai Indians maintained their dominance, winning all seven matches against KKR. In 2019, MI lost one of the two matches, but they bounced back in 2020, winning both encounters. In 2021, the teams split their two matches evenly. Over the last four seasons, they have played six matches, with KKR winning four.

Mumbai Indians have claimed five IPL titles, winning in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. In contrast, KKR has lifted the trophy three times, in 2012, 2014, and 2024.
