Mumbai, May 21: The Mumbai Cyber Police have scored another significant victory in their fight against digital fraud. From January to May 2026, the 1930 Cyber Helpline and the Crime Branch have successfully frozen over 101.39 crore rupees, safeguarding citizens’ savings.
According to Mumbai Police, a total of 255,092 calls were logged on the helpline during this period. Out of these, 30,302 cases saw the successful freezing of fraudulent amounts. This means that the police managed to save money in one out of every four cases, achieving a success rate of approximately 25.68 percent.
A senior officer from the Mumbai Cyber Police stated, “The 1930 helpline has become a robust shield for the digital security of Mumbai residents. Upon receiving a complaint, we immediately coordinate with banks, payment gateways, and relevant agencies. By contacting national nodal officers, we freeze suspicious accounts to prevent criminals from transferring money. Our rapid response is our greatest strength.”
Complaints primarily involve share trading and investment fraud, digital arrests, online task scams, fake job offers, debit and credit card fraud, phishing, and OTP-based scams. Officers promptly contact the relevant bank or wallet to halt the transactions.
The statistics over the past four years are even more impressive. Since its launch in May 2022, the 1930 helpline has saved a total of 491.57 crore rupees from cyber fraud. This figure demonstrates that the Mumbai Police are successfully establishing a strong security framework in the face of rising cybercrime threats.
The police urge citizens to call 1930 immediately if they encounter any fake calls, suspicious links, investment temptations, or financial fraud. Officials believe that time is the most critical factor in cyber fraud cases. The sooner a complaint is made, the higher the chances are of recovering or freezing the defrauded amount.
