As temperatures continue to soar across northern India, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts in several districts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, bringing a glimmer of hope for relief from the intense summer heat. While the monsoon has not yet officially arrived in Rajasthan, unseasonal showers have already started providing some respite in select regions.
Rajasthan: Pre-Monsoon Showers Begin, Alert Issued for Several Divisions
Jaipur, the capital city, witnessed light rain accompanied by cool winds, much to the relief of residents battling temperatures above 45°C. Cloudy skies and sporadic showers were also observed in nearby areas.
The IMD has issued a rain and thunderstorm alert for multiple districts in Rajasthan. Key divisions under the alert include:
Ajmer
Kota
Udaipur (with heavy rain in isolated areas)
Jodhpur

Bharatpur

Strong winds, lightning, and isolated heavy downpours are expected to continue through June 14, especially in the southern districts, signaling the prelude to monsoon’s arrival in the state.
Madhya Pradesh: Heavy Rainfall Likely from June 16 Onward
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh is also on high alert as the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rain in several districts starting June 16, 2025. These alerts come even as the state reels under extreme heat, with temperatures exceeding 42°C in many parts.

Mandla
Dindori
Anuppur
Khandwa
Dewas
Sehore
Bhopal
Indore

These rain spells are expected to bring much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave and mark the advance of the southwest monsoon into central India.
Public Advisory
The IMD has advised residents in the alert zones to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity and avoid open areas during lightning. Local authorities are also expected to ramp up preparations in anticipation of heavy rainfall that may lead to waterlogging or minor disruptions.
As monsoon winds inch closer, both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh look set to transition from extreme heat to much-awaited seasonal showers — a welcome change for millions awaiting relief.
