England Women Complete 3-0 Sweep Over Ireland in ODI Series

Worcester, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : England’s women’s cricket team secured a commanding 114-run victory over Ireland in the third ODI, completing a clean sweep of the series with a 3-0 record. Sophia Dunkley shone with the bat, scoring a century of 119 runs and earning both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards. Throughout the series, Dunkley averaged 70.67, accumulating a total of 212 runs.

In the match held at New Road, England lost the toss and was put in to bat. They managed to score 291 runs in 48.5 overs. The opening partnership saw Maia Bouchier and Dunkley put together 73 runs off 72 balls before Bouchier was dismissed for 39, hitting six boundaries.

Dunkley then formed a solid partnership with Georgia Elwiss, adding 110 runs for the second wicket. Elwiss was dismissed for 35 runs, while Dunkley’s impressive innings came off 119 balls, featuring 15 fours.

Daniel Gibson contributed 41 runs with four boundaries, and Freya Kemp added 23 runs, helping the team recover after losing wickets. England lost their fifth wicket at 260 runs but could only add 30 runs afterward. From the Irish bowling side, Cara Murray was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for 56 runs in her ten overs.

Chasing a daunting target, Ireland was bowled out for 177 runs in 44.2 overs. Alice Tector and captain Gaby Lewis managed a 24-run opening partnership, with Tector scoring 29 runs. Amy Hunter was the top scorer for Ireland with 39 runs, while Orla Prendergast contributed 24.

Despite some resistance, Ireland struggled against England’s bowling attack. Lauren Filer and Maddie Villiers each took three wickets, while Tilly Korten-Coleman added two wickets to her tally.

This victory not only highlights England’s dominance in the series but also sets a positive tone for their future endeavors in women’s cricket.
