New Delhi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the closing session of a two-day national conference on Women and Child Development at the Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi on October 9. This event was part of a series of departmental summits initiated by the Prime Minister.
The conference brought together ministers and senior officials from various states and union territories to discuss critical topics, including nutrition, child care, child protection, women’s safety and empowerment, and enhancing service accessibility through better coordination.
Modi praised the discussions and underscored the importance of collaborative decision-making between the central and state governments. He suggested that similar ‘brainstorming camps’ be organized at the district and municipal levels to further this model. Additionally, he recommended holding special sessions for Anganwadi workers to share their grassroots experiences and practical solutions.
The Prime Minister emphasized ‘public participation,’ stating that Anganwadi centers should not function merely as institutions but should become hubs of community involvement. He encouraged families living near these centers to contribute nutritious food, toys, and useful items for children during special occasions.
Modi also urged universities and educational institutions to engage with Anganwadi centers. He proposed that universities adopt nearby centers and conduct studies related to social impact. This initiative would provide students with opportunities to contribute while gaining insights to improve service delivery. He noted that medical students and volunteers from NSS and NCC could also participate in Anganwadi and community initiatives.
The Prime Minister called for greater focus on the health, nutrition, and overall development of adolescent girls. Discussing women’s safety, he suggested developing age-appropriate modules for children’s safety, respect, and empowerment. He highlighted the need for coordinated efforts across various departments to implement preventive measures.
Modi pointed out the deep connection between cleanliness, health, and nutrition, urging the Women and Child Development departments to take responsibility for the ‘Swachhata Abhiyan’ (Cleanliness Campaign). He stressed that good health and nutrition begin with cleanliness.
To promote women’s empowerment, he advocated for initiatives like ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘One District, One Product.’ He noted that women’s groups could play a vital role in strengthening local products and livelihoods.
This conference marks a significant step towards enhancing community involvement in the crucial areas of women’s and children’s welfare in India.
