Aizawl, July 15: EMRS Ngopa, an Eklavya Model Residential School, has brought pride to Mizoram by winning the Zonal-I phase of the first National Youth Parliament competition organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. This remarkable achievement has also secured the school’s place in the national finals of the competition.
Representing Mizoram, EMRS Ngopa previously clinched the top position in the northeastern regional round held in March 2026. Following their outstanding performance at the regional level, the school entered the Zonal-I competition. On July 15, at EMRS Kumulung in West Tripura, Mizoram’s team faced off against regional champion schools from Sikkim and Jharkhand. With an impressive presentation and a strong grasp of parliamentary procedures, EMRS Ngopa claimed the Zonal-I title.
Now, this team from Mizoram will compete in the national finals against the winners from the other three zones of the country. This achievement is regarded as a significant success for the state in the fields of education and extracurricular activities.
The National Youth Parliament competition aims to raise awareness among students about the Indian parliamentary system, democratic values, good governance, and civic responsibilities. Through this initiative, students are encouraged to develop logical thinking, leadership skills, confidence in public speaking, and an understanding of democratic processes.
Currently, there are 11 operational Eklavya Model Residential Schools under the Mizoram EMRS Society, with a total of 2,852 students enrolled. EMRS Ngopa is among these schools, educating 303 students. This achievement is seen as a major success for the state’s education sector and is expected to inspire other students to excel at the national level.
