Mizoram Police Arrests Teen for Spreading Fake Holiday Order

Aizawl, April 29: Mizoram police have arrested an 18-year-old for allegedly circulating a fake order on social media. The false order claimed that a public holiday was declared on April 27 due to heavy rainfall in the state. Authorities provided this information on Tuesday.

According to a senior police officer, a complaint was lodged on April 27 by the under-secretary of the General Administration Department at the Cyber Crime Police Station.

The complaint stated that a fake order was widely disseminated on social media, incorrectly announcing a public holiday due to heavy rain.

This document was presented as an official notification issued by the General Administration Department. It included a mention of the additional secretary’s approval along with forged digital signatures of the under-secretary of the department.

The spread of this fake document caused significant confusion and disorder among the public.

Following the complaint, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and initiated an investigation on April 27.

Through continuous investigation, police tracked down the source of the fake post within 24 hours. On Tuesday, they arrested the accused, identified as an 18-year-old boy from Upper Republic Veng in Aizawl. He has been taken into custody for legal proceedings.

Mizoram police issued an official statement warning that creating and spreading fake news, counterfeit government documents, or misleading content on social media is a serious crime, and strict legal action will be taken against offenders.

The statement also emphasized that those found involved in such illegal activities will face stringent consequences.
