Udaipur (Kiran News). MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat raised a special issue under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, urging the government to make India self-reliant in mining equipment manufacturing, similar to the self-sufficiency achieved in the defence sector.

Dr. Rawat said that currently, various types of machinery and equipment are used for mining in India. Among them, products manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited are prominent and known for their quality. He also noted that several foreign companies, including US-based Caterpillar Inc. (CAT), are supplying mining machinery to India. At a time when the nation is progressing rapidly towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, it is important to promote the Make in India initiative in the mining sector and increase the production and use of indigenous equipment.
Dr. Rawat highlighted that the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), which funds research and development in the mining sector, currently has more than ₹3,500 crore available, which can be used effectively. He urged the government to consider expanding NMET’s functions and provide strong financial support to reputed indigenous companies like Bharat Earth Movers Limited and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. According to Dr. Rawat, this will reduce the dependence on imported equipment and further strengthen the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
