India Eyes Gold Against Pakistan in Asian Games Cricket Final

New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian men’s cricket team has secured its place in the final of the 2026 Asian Games. Following a commanding 124-run victory over Sri Lanka in the semifinals, the team is set to defend its gold medal against Pakistan on October 3.

This will mark the first time the Indian team competes in an Asian Games final. In the previous edition, India reached the final, but the match was abandoned due to rain. Consequently, India was awarded the gold medal based on its superior T20 ranking, as Afghanistan, the other finalist, scored 112 runs for the loss of five wickets in 18.2 overs. Indian bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dubey, and Ravi Bishnoi each took a wicket during that match.

The upcoming final against Pakistan is highly anticipated. Historically, India has performed well against Pakistan in T20 internationals, with the two teams facing off 17 times. India has emerged victorious in 13 of those encounters, while Pakistan has won just three. One match ended in a tie, but India claimed victory in that instance as well.

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the Indian team is determined to extend its dominance over Pakistan. The last encounter between the two teams was during the T20 World Cup 2026, where India won by 61 runs.

In the semifinals, India showcased an impressive performance. Batting first, the team scored 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs, with Ishan Kishan contributing an unbeaten 80 runs and Vaibhav Suryaanshi adding 38. Sri Lanka, in response, was bowled out for just 45 runs, handing India a significant 124-run victory.

Meanwhile, Pakistan secured its spot in the final by defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-affected semifinal.
