New Delhi, June 4: The issue of allegedly contaminated water mixed with sewage in the Hauz Khas area of South Delhi has escalated to a legal battle. During a hearing on Wednesday, the Delhi High Court issued notices to the Delhi Jal Board and the Delhi government, expressing its dissatisfaction with the situation.
During the proceedings, the Delhi Jal Board assured the court that an investigation into the water quality is underway. The board reported that water samples have been sent for testing, and necessary actions will follow based on the results. The High Court has requested a detailed response from the Delhi Jal Board within two weeks, with the next hearing scheduled for July 9.
The petition was filed by Abhiyesumat Gupta, a resident of Hauz Khas. Gupta claims that since May 30, foul-smelling and contaminated water has been supplied to his home and several nearby residences. He alleges that sewage water is mixing with the supply lines in the X and Y Block areas of Hauz Khas, posing serious health risks to the community.
The petition states that due to the consumption and use of contaminated water, family members and many nearby residents are experiencing issues such as stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. Gupta also claims that despite repeated complaints, no resolution has been provided, and attempts to contact the relevant authorities have been ineffective.
The situation has become so dire that affected families are now forced to purchase packaged water for drinking, cooking, and daily use. All eyes are now on the next hearing scheduled for July 9.
