Mumbai, August 22: Renowned rapper MC Square is currently serving as a mentor on the rap show ‘Hustle Season 5.’ He believes that the distinction between mainstream and underground music has become increasingly blurred. Today, audiences appreciate all types of music.
MC Square explained that a song cannot be labeled as commercial solely based on its popularity or revenue, as underground music has now entered the mainstream.
When asked if ‘MTV Hustle’ still caters to a specific audience, given that most people prefer commercial music over hip-hop, MC Square responded, “I think art is something that, if it makes money, is labeled commercial. I do not accept this definition that only certain types of music are commercial.”
He further stated, “Nowadays, you will notice that underground music has also become mainstream. There are many examples of this. Even in our own songs, we have numerous instances. So, it’s not just for a specific audience. Those who enjoy listening to music also watch this show. You get to hear different types of songs.”
He added, “You hear many things; some are good, while others offer lessons. This is for everyone, not just for a particular group.”
Famous Indian rapper, songwriter, and hip-hop artist MC Square, whose real name is Abhishek Bainsla, began his career on MTV’s popular singing reality show ‘Hustle 2.0,’ where he won the trophy that year.
His music and rap uniquely blend urban hip-hop with traditional Haryanvi folk music, ragini, and elements of his local culture.
