Mumbai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market broke its three-day losing streak on Thursday, closing in positive territory amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. In the broader market, the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices fell by 0.38 percent and 0.07 percent, respectively. Sector-wise, Nifty Media, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty PSU Bank, and Nifty Private Bank performed well, while Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Auto, Nifty Healthcare, and Nifty FMCG lagged.
Among the Nifty 50 constituents, HCL Tech, Hindalco, and Tata Steel were the biggest losers, while HDFC Life, Powergrid, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, and Tech Mahindra saw significant gains.
Meanwhile, crude oil prices remained elevated, staying above $102 per barrel due to escalating conflicts in the Middle East. Iran recently reported attacks on ten vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, following the sinking of five Iranian oil tankers by the U.S. This spike in oil prices poses challenges for India, the world’s third-largest oil importer, as it drives up import bills and adds inflationary pressure, negatively impacting economic growth and corporate profitability.
