New Delhi, February 19: Manoj Kumar Jha, a Rajya Sabha member from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), responded to the ongoing ‘India AI Impact Summit’ held in the national capital. He acknowledged the significance of such a large conference but emphasized that India has yet to fully grasp the challenges and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence (AI).
Jha stated that there has not been extensive and serious discussion on critical topics like AI. While India is somewhat lagging in this field, he expressed hope that the summit would prompt the country to take concrete steps to address its shortcomings and catch up in areas where it has fallen behind.
During the summit, he addressed the ‘Robot Dog’ controversy, noting that not only the opposition but also civil society members are raising questions. Many individuals feel humiliated by the incident that occurred on such a prominent global platform.
He rejected the notion of blaming a single institution or teachers for the issue. Jha argued that it is unfair to place the entire responsibility on a few individuals, highlighting that the real question lies in the quality assessment. He provided an example, stating that even in a small school science fair, teachers ensure what is accurate and what is not.
Speaking on the education system, he remarked that Indians have made significant contributions to leading global institutions, with many prominent names linked to Indian heritage. He added that if the government recognizes and strengthens the importance of publicly funded education, only then will high-quality outcomes emerge. According to him, the rapid rise of private institutions in recent years has made achieving such quality and impact increasingly challenging.
