Manipur Assemblys 8th Session to Begin on September 2 Amidst Ongoing Violence and Relief Efforts

Imphal, August 17: Political activities in Manipur are set to intensify. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has called for the 8th session of the 12th Manipur Assembly to commence on September 2. The session will take place in the assembly hall in Imphal at 11 AM.

A notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat on Monday stated that the Governor exercised his powers under Article 174(1) of the Indian Constitution to issue this order on August 14. The notification bears the signature of Assembly Secretary Rohit Sapam.

The notification clearly states, “I, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, hereby summon the 8th session of the 12th Manipur Assembly to meet on September 2 at 11:00 AM in the Assembly Hall, Imphal.”

Key issues likely to be discussed during this session include the ongoing violence in the state, the condition of displaced persons in relief camps, law and order, and the financial assistance from the central government. The opposition may question the government regarding the peace process and the restoration of normalcy. Meanwhile, the ruling party is expected to provide updates on development projects and relief measures.

According to Assembly sources, several bills may also be introduced during the session. Additionally, discussions on grant demands from various departments and financial matters will be presented in the house.

The order number 3/1(4)/2022-LA issued by the Manipur Assembly Secretariat indicates that the Governor’s order dated August 14, 2026, was issued from Lok Bhawan, Imphal, and has been published for public information.

This will be the 8th session of the 12th Assembly. Prior sessions, including the monsoon and special sessions, have already seen extensive discussions on law and order and relief efforts.

The session beginning on September 2 is crucial given the current situation in the state. The government will need to respond to questions from both the opposition and the ruling party, and a progress report on the implementation of central government schemes in the state may also be presented in the house.
