Man Dies After Falling into Open Sewer in Rohini, Delhi

New Delhi, February 11: A tragic incident occurred in the Rohini area of Delhi, where a man lost his life after falling into an open sewer. Reports indicate that the sewer cover was left uncovered.

The incident took place on February 9. The Begumpur police were notified about the situation at around 4 PM on February 10, prompting their immediate arrival at the scene.

The deceased, identified as a 32-year-old man, fell into the sewer due to the lack of a cover, leading to this unfortunate event.

Local residents mentioned that another individual was present with the victim at the time of the incident. However, he did not inform anyone about the fall until a search for the man began. Once the search commenced, he alerted the authorities. Following the incident, officials from various relevant departments arrived at the location. Residents expressed concerns over the apparent negligence of the administration regarding the open sewer.

Tejpal Yadav, a local lawyer, shared insights about the incident. He stated that on Monday, two friends were working as laborers when one fell into the open sewer. He noted that there were no covers on any of the sewers in the vicinity. After the incident, covers were hastily placed over the sewers.

Yadav recounted that when he arrived around 7 PM, officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) were present, bringing sewer covers to install. He expressed suspicion regarding the presence of private tankers and called emergency services, only to discover that no department had been informed about the incident.

The deceased was reportedly from Samastipur in Bihar and was around 32 years old. According to Yadav, the victim’s name was Brijju, and he did not live with his wife and children in Delhi. He was planning to return to his village soon.

A local resident pointed out that children often play in the area, which is connected to the colony’s road, and emphasized that no sewer covers were in place. He warned that if improvements are not made, further accidents could occur in the future.
