Prayagraj: The Kinnar Akhada has removed former actress Mamta Kulkarni from the post of Mahamandaleshwar following her recent comments about Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand. Meanwhile, Computer Baba welcomed the decision taken by Kinnar Akhada’s Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi on Thursday.
Computer Baba praised the decision, stating, “This is certainly a welcome step. If Mamta Kulkarni has been removed from her Akhada position, it is the right action. Our Shankaracharyas are revered figures, our religious leaders. There are four Shankaracharyas, and Avimuktacharya is one of them. They are like gods. How can anyone make derogatory remarks about them? The entire Sanatan Sant community strongly condemns such comments.”
He further added that Mamta Kulkarni’s harsh remarks against the Shankaracharya were incorrect, and the Kinnar Akhada removed her because she misrepresented the Sanatan Dharma. He described the removal as a good decision.
On January 25, Mamta Kulkarni had raised questions regarding the role and conduct of Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand, as well as the appointment process and the need for a large crowd to accompany the palanquin during the bathing ceremony.
In response, on January 27, Kinnar Akhada’s Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi clearly stated that Mamta Kulkarni no longer had any association with the Akhada. She confirmed that Mamta was neither an officer nor a member of the Akhada, and any statements made by her did not represent the Akhada.
Subsequently, Mamta Kulkarni announced her resignation via Instagram, stating that her resignation would be effective from January 27 and that it was a voluntary decision.
It is notable that Mamta Kulkarni was appointed Mahamandaleshwar and given a new name by the Kinnar Akhada on January 24, 2025, during the Maha Kumbh. However, some saints opposed this appointment from the beginning. With the recent decision, Mamta Kulkarni’s association with the Akhada has ended completely.
