Chennai, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Malayalam film superstar Mammootty is stepping into the realm of sports documentaries with his latest project, ‘Panthadikkam.’ This marks the first sports documentary in Malayalam, where Mammootty lends his voice to narrate the unique relationship between Kerala and football.

The five-episode series will delve into the history, traditions, rivalries, and the fervent passion of fans for the sport. ‘Panthadikkam’ is set to stream on the G5 platform starting October 1.

Viewers will have the opportunity to witness how football has become an integral part of life and culture in Kerala. Each episode will run for approximately 20 minutes, covering the evolution of football in the state—from its inception to the early days of club football, the golden era of the Santosh Trophy, and the rise of modern professional football.

Mammootty expressed his thoughts on the documentary, stating, “Football in Kerala is more than just a game. It is a passion that unites people. From local streets and grounds to the excitement of watching international matches, the love for this sport is something I have always admired. ‘Panthadikkam’ showcases this special relationship between Kerala and football, highlighting the stories, celebrations, and memories that make it so unique.”

Produced under Stories Social by Dr. Sangeeta Janachandran, the documentary is directed and scored by Nikes Lopez, with the narrative crafted by Geetharth A.R.

Lloyd C. Xavier, the head of G5’s Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam business, stated, “Our platform aims to present stories that resonate with the tastes, culture, and identity of Malayali audiences. Football holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Kerala, and ‘Panthadikkam’ celebrates this profound connection.”

He further added that the documentary brings together two beloved icons of Kerala—Mammootty and football. It will also feature the inspiring story of Vaishakh S.R., the captain of India’s first national amputee football team, showcasing his journey of struggle, courage, and passion for the sport. The series will highlight the influence of international football legends, particularly the fervor for Brazil and Argentina among the people of Kerala, illustrating how this passion permeates through streets and homes.
