Mumbai, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : A significant controversy has emerged within the Cine and Television Artists Association (CINTAA) regarding the management of its bank accounts and fixed deposits. Upasana Singh, a former official of CINTAA, has leveled serious allegations against actresses Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure concerning the organization’s funds.
In an exclusive conversation, Upasana claimed that after the dissolution of the committee, she accessed a frozen bank account and discovered that money from CINTAA’s fixed deposits had been transferred to another account.
She stated, “We have fixed deposits in five banks and accounts in those banks. When our committee was dissolved, Deepak Parashar was the treasurer. We had informed all banks that the committee was disbanded and requested that the accounts remain frozen until a new committee was formed.”
Upasana further asserted that accounts should only have been reopened following a court order. However, she alleged that one account had already been reopened, and funds had been transferred without proper authorization. “Before breaking a fixed deposit, the consent of the members is essential. How can they break the FD without consulting the members?” she questioned.
When asked whether such transactions require authorized signatures, Upasana replied, “They would need authorized signatures. But the account was frozen. What did they do? They met with the office staff, who are complicit. They took the staff to the bank, showed them stamps, email IDs, and office documents, and asked them to open the account through KYC.”
Upasana specifically named Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure, alleging that they, along with a third party, went to the bank and presented documents related to the organization to facilitate the account reopening. She claimed these individuals misrepresented themselves as part of the CINTAA committee, despite not holding those positions at the time.
According to Upasana, CINTAA has approximately ₹90 lakh in fixed deposits, and money has been transferred through various transactions. It remains unclear how many fixed deposits have been broken.
Actress Nagma also raised concerns regarding the use of CINTAA’s funds. She specifically objected to the alleged breaking of fixed deposits to pay staff salaries. “This money is for artists. How can it be misused?” she stated. Nagma questioned the necessity of opening a new account, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming court hearing scheduled for October 26. “We must wait for the court’s decision. If it doesn’t go our way, we will accept it. But why break into the office and access funds in the meantime?” she added.
She further criticized the rationale behind using artists’ funds to pay staff salaries, stating, “You are paying staff with artists’ money. This is not right.”
Tensions are rising within CINTAA as the organization grapples with these serious allegations, with members eagerly awaiting the court’s ruling.
