New Delhi, July 15: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee expressed her support for the ongoing movement of the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) in Delhi on Tuesday. She reached out to social activist Sonam Wangchuk via phone to inquire about his well-being.
Banerjee also showed solidarity with the movement that demands justice for students. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke welcomed her support and expressed gratitude on social media.
Dipke shared that Banerjee spoke with Wangchuk to check on his health and encouraged him to stay strong. He noted that she also backed the CJP’s ongoing efforts to secure justice for students and thanked her for her concern and support.
The CJP initiated its protest on June 20 at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak controversy. Sonam Wangchuk has been involved with this movement from the beginning.
Later, Wangchuk announced that he would go on a hunger strike if the central government did not take positive action by June 27. After receiving no response from the government, Wangchuk began his hunger strike on June 28.
Due to his deteriorating health, various parties have urged him to end his indefinite hunger strike. Wangchuk is currently protesting in support of Dipke, who is demanding Pradhan’s resignation over the alleged paper leak in May that affected millions of students.
On Tuesday, the movement received a significant boost with Mamata Banerjee’s endorsement.
