Mamata Banerjee Congratulates Tarique Rahman on BNPs Election Victory

Kolkata, February 13: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her congratulations to Tarique Rahman following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) victory in the recent general elections. Voting took place in the neighboring country on Thursday, with results emerging the next day.

In a post on her social media platform ‘X’, Chief Minister Banerjee also wished the people of Bangladesh for their peaceful participation in the elections.

She wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to all brothers and sisters of Bangladesh, ‘Shubhonandan’. Wishing you all a blessed Ramadan in advance. Congratulations to my brother Tarique, his party, and all involved for this significant victory. I pray for your happiness and health. May our relationship with Bangladesh always remain harmonious.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Tarique Rahman and the BNP leadership on their electoral success. In a post on ‘X’, PM Modi stated, “I sincerely congratulate Tarique Rahman for leading the BNP to a significant victory in the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. This win reflects the trust of the Bangladeshi people in your leadership. India stands with a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh.”

PM Modi further expressed, “I look forward to working with you to strengthen our diverse relationships and advance our common development goals.”

As of the time of this report, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, and the state BJP president, Samik Bhattacharya, had not issued any statements regarding the Bangladesh elections.

Former state BJP president and current Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar reposted the Prime Minister’s statement on his social media handle. Meanwhile, former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh briefly mentioned to the media that he hopes for improved relations between India and Bangladesh in the coming days.
