Maldives Condemns Israels Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque Gates

Male, March 13: The Maldives government has strongly condemned Israel’s decision to close the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This action, taken during the holy month of Ramadan, is viewed as a violation of the sanctity of Islam’s sacred sites and international law.

The Maldivian government stated that Israeli forces have blocked access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites. This restriction is seen as a clear breach of international law. The government described the act as a deliberately provocative move that undermines the mosque’s sanctity, legal status, and religious significance.

The Maldives has reiterated its appeal to the international community to take decisive action to hold Israel accountable for human rights violations and for disrespecting this sacred site.

Previously, the Maldivian government condemned attacks by Iran on Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and other allied nations. It has called on the international community to intensify diplomatic efforts to bring peace, stability, and security to the region.

Attacks on civilian areas, such as airports and oil facilities in the Gulf region, are a significant concern. These actions represent a clear violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions. The Maldives government expressed regret that there has been no retaliation from Gulf countries despite these attacks.

The Maldives has previously stated that such actions have heightened tensions in the Gulf region. Ongoing violence undermines any possibility of peace, and the Maldives urges all parties to immediately cease hostilities.

Other countries, in addition to the Maldives, have also called for peace regarding the situation in the Gulf.

Italy’s ambassador, Antonio Bartoli, has emphasized the need to end tensions, stating, “Diplomatic dialogue and peace should be promoted in this conflict to stop the war as soon as possible. We are concerned about the safety of thousands of Italian citizens in the Gulf and abroad.”

Additionally, China has called for peace and understanding. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi noted that the current situation in the Gulf is increasingly tense, which could also affect Bahrain’s security. He reiterated China’s stance that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected.
