Patna, July 15: The Jan Suraj Party has faced a significant political blow ahead of the upcoming by-election for the Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar. Senior leaders K.C. Sinha and Ritesh Ranjan, also known as Bittu Singh, along with several others, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday.
BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi welcomed the new members into the party. Prashant Kishor, the architect of Jan Suraj, is contesting in the Bankipur by-election himself. K.C. Sinha was the official candidate for Jan Suraj in the last assembly elections from the Kumharar seat, while Ritesh Ranjan Singh contested from the Digha assembly area.
Both leaders are considered influential in their respective regions. Their switch to the BJP just before the Bankipur by-election is seen as a significant setback for Jan Suraj. Among those who joined the BJP are Gopal Singh (former candidate from Maner), Vinita Bittu Singh (former mayoral candidate), Dr. Kishore Kumar, Braj Kishore Sinha, Brahmadev Manjhi, Sunil Yadav, Raju Yadav, Ranjit Singh, Ram Babu Yadav, Shubham Singh, Mantu Rai, and Sadhu Ji, among others.
Along with these leaders, hundreds of supporters also joined the BJP. During this event, BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi stated that leaders from various political parties are joining the BJP in large numbers due to the effective governance of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party’s policies. He noted a sense of chaos among opposition parties across the country, with representatives consistently aligning with the BJP.
Sarawagi expressed a warm welcome to the new members who joined the BJP and the NDA government, emphasizing their potential role in strengthening the organization. The inclusion of several prominent leaders from Jan Suraj into the BJP is expected to influence the electoral equations ahead of the Bankipur by-election.
It is important to note that this by-election is taking place following the resignation of Nitin Naveen from the Bankipur assembly seat. The BJP president vacated his legislative position after being elected to the Rajya Sabha, having served as a legislator from Bankipur for four consecutive terms. Voting for the Bankipur by-election is scheduled for July 30.
