Chandigarh, March 27: The Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited (MILKFED) has taken strict action against the Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited due to serious quality lapses. The Indian Army rejected two batches of milk powder supplied by the Ludhiana Milk Union after finding foreign materials in the samples.
Army officials communicated this issue to the Milk Union through letters dated February 12, 2026, and March 16, 2026. The first batch weighed 58.338 metric tons, while the second batch was 66.654 metric tons. Both batches exhibited significant quality control failures.
MILKFED management views this incident as a direct attack on the organization’s credibility. According to them, this lapse falls under the category of “serious misconduct” as per the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Employee Service Rules 2023.
In light of this serious matter, Daljit Singh, who was in charge as the General Manager of Ludhiana Milk Union, has been suspended with immediate effect under Rule 62.1(I). During the suspension period, he will receive a subsistence allowance as per Rule 63(A). His headquarters has been designated at the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Limited in Chandigarh.
This order from MILKFED has stirred the cooperative dairy sector in Punjab. The Ludhiana Milk Union is one of the largest and most significant milk unions in the state. Supplying milk powder to the Indian Army is considered a major contract for the Milk Union. The quality lapse has not only shattered the trust of such a critical institution but has also severely impacted the organization’s reputation.
Management has stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible. Maintaining the organization’s credibility is a top priority. This incident raises questions about quality control and accountability in Punjab’s cooperative dairy sector.
