Major Robbery Plot Foiled at Bank of Maharashtra; Four Arrested in Koderma

Koderma, August 18: In a significant operation, police in Koderma district, Jharkhand, successfully thwarted a major robbery plot at the Bank of Maharashtra, arresting four criminals. Late Monday night, law enforcement raided a hideout in the Inderwa area of the Tilaiya police station jurisdiction. The suspects attempted to flee while firing at the police. In the ensuing exchange, one criminal was shot in the leg and has been admitted to Koderma Sadar Hospital for treatment.

The Koderma police received intelligence from their counterparts in Hazaribagh, indicating that a group was gathering in Inderwa to plan the bank heist. Following this tip-off, a police team cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation. During the raid, three suspects—Sunny Kumar, Atul Kumar, and Aman Raj—were apprehended. Meanwhile, the gang’s fourth member, Prince Pandey, also known as Baba, attempted to escape.

While fleeing, Pandey fired approximately five rounds at the police. In response, officers fired back, injuring him in the right leg, leading to his capture. He was immediately transported to Koderma Sadar Hospital, where doctors reported that his condition is stable.

Authorities recovered three illegal pistols, five magazines, and 15 cartridges from the arrested suspects. Police are now interrogating them to uncover the identities of other gang members and the timeline and methodology planned for the bank robbery.

Investigations revealed that the suspects’ mobile phones contained videos and images related to reconnaissance of the Bank of Maharashtra. This evidence suggests they were gathering information about the bank’s security measures, surrounding areas, and access routes. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the entire case, including the criminal records of the arrested individuals and any connections to prior criminal activities in the district.
