New Delhi, March 12: Farmers in Madhya Pradesh have received significant relief from the central government. The state will implement the Bhavantar payment scheme for mustard procurement, while 100% of tur (pigeon pea) will be procured by the government.
This decision came after discussions between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. CM Yadav was in New Delhi on Thursday, where he met with Minister Chouhan.
During the meeting, CM Yadav raised several critical issues concerning farmers and rural development, leading to positive outcomes from the center. Important decisions regarding mustard procurement were made at the CM’s request.
The Union Agriculture Minister approved Madhya Pradesh’s proposal under the Bhavantar payment scheme and instructed the relevant departments to expedite the payment process. This initiative will directly benefit thousands of mustard-producing farmers in the state.
Additionally, during the meeting, Minister Chouhan handed CM Yadav the approval letter for 100% government procurement of tur. This ensures that tur farmers will have their entire yield procured by the government, reducing the risk of falling market prices.
CM Mohan Yadav emphasized the need to make the state a leading center for pulse and oilseed production. The center and state agreed to develop a long-term strategy for crops such as moong, urad, chana, mustard, and oil palm.
The CM also raised the issue of better protection for farmers’ interests under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme. Following this, the Union Minister directed that both crop cutting and remote sensing methods be used for assessing crops like soybean, ensuring that farmers receive compensation based on actual losses.
