Major Milestone Achieved in Bullet Train Project with Mountain Tunnel Breakthrough

Palghar, February 3: A significant milestone has been reached in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. The breakthrough of Mountain Tunnel-6 has been successfully completed. Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw observed the progress via video conferencing on Tuesday. This tunnel is located in the Dahanu Road area of Palghar, Maharashtra.

The high-speed rail corridor spans a total length of 508 kilometers, providing fast and comfortable connectivity between Maharashtra and Gujarat. Considerable work has already been accomplished on the project. Out of the total 508 kilometers, 334 kilometers of viaducts and 417 kilometers of piers have been completed. Additionally, 17 river bridges, 5 PSC bridges, and 13 steel bridges have also been constructed.

Over 490,000 noise barriers have been installed along the 247-kilometer route. Regarding the tracks, 308 track kilometers, equivalent to 154 route kilometers of RC track bed, have been prepared. More than 5,400 overhead electric masts have been erected across approximately 125 route kilometers of the main line.

The breakthrough of the first mountain tunnel among seven proposed in Maharashtra has been achieved, with excavation completed for two out of eight tunnels. Excavation of a 21-kilometer tunnel between BKC and Shilphata has seen 5 kilometers of NATM tunnel completed.

Construction of rolling stock depots is ongoing in Surat and Ahmedabad. The superstructure of all stations in Gujarat is nearly complete, while work is progressing on three elevated stations in Maharashtra, and slab casting is rapidly advancing at the underground station in Mumbai.

Once completed, this project will make travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad significantly easier and faster. In the coming years, this high-speed rail corridor is set to transform connectivity between the two states, offering passengers a comfortable, safe, and time-saving journey.
