Major Inter-State Theft Gang Busted After 200 km Chase, Six Arrested

New Delhi, May 27: The police in South Delhi’s Lodhi Colony have successfully dismantled an inter-state theft gang after a relentless 200-kilometer chase. Six suspects have been arrested, including three habitual offenders, two female accomplices, and a jeweler who purchased the stolen goods.

Authorities recovered a significant haul from the suspects, including stolen gold, silver, and diamond jewelry, burglary tools, 34 master keys, and a vehicle used in the crimes.

The investigation began after a theft was reported at a government flat in the Lodhi Road Complex. The complainant stated that unknown thieves broke into the flat while the family was away, stealing gold, silver jewelry, and other valuables. An FIR was lodged at the Lodhi Colony police station, prompting an investigation.

Under the leadership of Inspector Ravinder Kumar Tyagi, a special team was formed. The police examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas, identifying a suspicious Maruti Celerio car with a fake license plate. This led to a tracking operation using hundreds of CCTV cameras across Delhi-NCR.

The police traced the vehicle through various locations, including Barapulla, Ring Road, Sarai Kale Khan, Meerut Expressway, Ghaziabad, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, and Noida. The suspects attempted to evade capture by frequently changing routes. However, the police maintained technical surveillance and manual tracking. After a 200-kilometer pursuit, the police located the suspicious vehicle in the Geeta Colony area.

On the evening of May 20, officers apprehended three suspects as they were getting into the car. During interrogation, the suspects revealed that the stolen items were sold through their female accomplices and the jeweler. Subsequently, both female suspects and the jeweler were also arrested.

The investigation revealed that the gang conducted reconnaissance on abandoned houses and executed thefts using master keys and specialized tools. Police stated that this gang has been involved in over 70 criminal cases across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Currently, the police are interrogating the suspects and investigating their involvement in other cases.
