South Cotabato, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : A tragic shooting occurred on Friday at Bangga National High School in South Cotabato, Philippines, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals and injuring six others, local media reports indicate.
Governor Reynaldo Tamayo of South Cotabato confirmed the casualties. The Philippine Red Cross dispatched teams to the scene to provide life-saving assistance. According to a statement posted on Facebook, six injured individuals were transported to Dantum Doctors Hospital and South Cotabato Provincial Hospital. One person has died, and reports suggest that the suspected shooter may also be among the injured. Initial information indicates that the suspected assailant is a student.
Richard J. Gordon, Chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross, expressed condolences to the school community, noting that their teams are on-site to ensure immediate medical assistance for the victims.
The Department of Education in the Philippines expressed deep concern over the shooting incident at Bangga National High School. They urged the public to remain calm and refrain from sharing unverified information until official investigations are complete. The department emphasized that the safety of every student and member of the school community is its top priority. It is coordinating with school division offices, regional offices, local authorities, and law enforcement agencies to confirm the circumstances of the incident and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
Additionally, the department is preparing to offer psychological first aid and mental health support to individuals impacted by the event.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of school shootings in the Philippines. Last month, a student at Ateneo de Zamboanga University shot and killed a classmate in the junior high school building using two firearms. Earlier in June, a shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City left at least three students injured, along with 20 others.
