Raipur, August 16: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Komakhan police in Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund district seized 23.270 kilograms of marijuana. One suspect was arrested, while his accomplice managed to escape. The police also confiscated a scooter used for transporting the drugs, along with a mobile phone, totaling assets worth ₹12,43,500.
According to police reports, a continuous checking campaign is underway in the district under the directives of the Anti-Narcotic Task Force. During this operation, the Komakhan police received a tip-off that two individuals were transporting a large quantity of marijuana from Odisha to Chhattisgarh.
Acting on this information, the police set up a blockade at the Temri check post and began vehicle inspections. Shortly after, the scooter mentioned by the informant arrived at the scene. When the police signaled the vehicle to stop, the driver attempted to flee at high speed.
The police pursued the scooter and managed to halt it near the Patparpali village. During the chase, one individual jumped from the scooter and escaped, while the driver was apprehended on the spot.
The arrested suspect, identified as Amit Sahu (19), resides in Ward No. 5, Raja Khariar, Nuapada district, Odisha. The police identified the fleeing accomplice as Shankar Yadav, also from Raja Khariar, Nuapada district.
Upon searching the scooter, officers discovered a bag containing 23.270 kilograms of marijuana. The suspects revealed during interrogation that they planned to transport the drugs from Bodh (Odisha) to Raipur (Chhattisgarh) for distribution.
The police have registered a case and initiated further action. The operation resulted in the seizure of 23.270 kilograms of illegal marijuana valued at approximately ₹11,63,000, a TVS Jupiter scooter worth ₹80,000, and a mobile phone valued at ₹500, bringing the total confiscated assets to ₹12,43,500.
Authorities confirmed that one suspect is in custody while efforts to locate the fugitive Shankar Yadav are ongoing. The police are investigating the entire drug trafficking network and will continue their operations in this matter.
