
Srinagar, April 27: The police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Monday that they have dismantled a significant drug trafficking operation. Authorities seized over 166 kilograms of narcotics and arrested four individuals.
In a statement, the police revealed that this operation is one of the largest anti-drug campaigns conducted in the district. Coordinated efforts by Anantnag police led to the confiscation of more than 166 kilograms of illegal substances, including cannabis and charas, and the arrest of four suspects.
Based on specific intelligence and regular inspections, multiple police teams conducted operations at various locations. These efforts resulted in the recovery of a substantial amount of contraband and the apprehension of several key traffickers.
At Shalgam Crossing, a police team from the Shrigufwara station stopped a vehicle (JK01 W-7328) during a patrol. Upon searching the car, they discovered approximately 110 kilograms of cannabis and arrested one suspect, identified as Nazir Ahmad Khatana from the Gujjar community in Shalgam.
In another operation, the police post in Dialgam executed a search warrant at the residence of Mohammad Rafiq Ittoo in Watrigam. During the search, they recovered around 51 kilograms of a substance resembling charas. Following this, a case was registered under the NDPS Act.
Additionally, during a checkpoint at Sakhras Crossing, police apprehended Rais Ahmad Shah from Wullarhama and seized about 5 kilograms of charas powder from his possession.
In a separate action at Doodhnad Waghama, the Bijbehara police station arrested another trafficker, recovering 170 grams of charas and 18,700 rupees in cash.
The police noted that since SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure took charge, the anti-drug campaign in Anantnag has gained significant momentum. Intensive operations have led to the recovery of large quantities of narcotics and numerous arrests in recent weeks.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger networks involved in drug trafficking. Meanwhile, Anantnag police reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug problem and urged the public to share any information related to narcotics to aid in their efforts.
