Amritsar, May 20: Punjab police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking. The Amritsar Commissionerate police dismantled an international drug smuggling gang, arresting two suspects and seizing 10 kilograms of ‘ice’ (methamphetamine) and 4 kilograms of heroin.
The Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab shared this success on the social media platform X, revealing that the gang operated under the direction of a mastermind based in Dubai. Initial investigations indicated that the arrested individuals were in contact with this Dubai-based trafficker, who managed a network spanning Abu Dhabi and Dubai. One of the suspects had recently returned from Dubai.
According to police reports, he received training in Dubai on transporting heroin and ice from one location to another. Following this, he was tasked with supplying these narcotics to the Majha and Doaba regions of Punjab. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Cheherhta police station in Amritsar. Authorities are now working to uncover other links in this international network, with ongoing raids aimed at identifying additional gang members and potential recoveries.
Punjab police have sent a clear message about their commitment to completely eradicate drug trafficking and create a safe, drug-free Punjab. The DGP emphasized that strict actions will continue to disrupt the drug supply chain in the state.
In recent years, Punjab has intensified its anti-drug campaigns. Under a joint initiative by the government and police, continuous pressure is being applied on international, national, and state-level traffickers. This operation by Amritsar police is considered a significant achievement in the battle against drug trafficking, particularly as substances like ice rapidly lead the youth into addiction.
