Indore, August 8: In a significant move, the food department in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has halted the sale of 25,000 liters of pure ghee from a local company. Samples of the ghee have been sent for testing.
The estimated value of this ghee is around ₹1.5 crore. Official sources indicate that the food safety department is conducting a special campaign to assess the quality of milk and dairy products across the state. This initiative includes heightened scrutiny of milk and dairy products entering Madhya Pradesh from other states.
Recently, samples from certain ghee brands coming from outside the state were found to be substandard, prompting directives for special sampling actions against those brands.
Food safety officials inspected the depot of Parag Milk Foods Limited. During the inspection, it was discovered that the depot was storing and selling Govardhan brand ghee, manufactured by Parag Milk Foods Limited in Pune, Maharashtra. This establishment is the primary supplier of Govardhan brand ghee throughout Madhya Pradesh.
Due to its central licensing, senior officials were promptly notified, leading to the arrival of a team from the central food safety authority (FSSAI) at the site.
During the operation, 20 samples of Govardhan brand ghee in various packaging sizes were collected for testing. Additionally, the sale of approximately 25,000 liters of ghee, valued at around ₹1.5 crore, has been suspended pending the completion of the investigation and further orders.
