Noida, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Transport Department in Noida has ramped up enforcement efforts following a recent incident of gang rape involving a student on a bus. Under the directives of the Uttar Pradesh government, the department launched “Operation Kavach 2.0” to ensure passenger safety and clamp down on non-compliant vehicles.
During the operation, five enforcement teams conducted thorough checks at key locations across Gautam Buddh Nagar. They issued challans for 46 buses and seized 25 for serious violations. The department also collected over 10 lakh rupees in revenue during this operation.
According to the Transport Department, this initiative aims to enhance passenger security while targeting illegal and improperly operated vehicles. The operation was led by Dr. Udit Narayan Pandey, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), with a total of five enforcement teams deployed, including three ARTOs and two PTOs.
The teams inspected buses at busy spots such as Pari Chowk, Mahamaya Flyover, Sector 37, and Surajpur. They reviewed permits, taxes, and operational documents. Immediate action was taken against buses found violating regulations. Several serious irregularities were discovered, including buses operating without valid routes and permits.
Additionally, some vehicle owners were found to have neglected government tax payments for an extended period. There were also instances of registered passenger buses being used for commercial freight transport, contrary to regulations. During the crackdown, over seven lakh rupees in fines were imposed on rule-breaking operators, along with approximately three lakh rupees in outstanding taxes. In total, the operation resulted in financial actions exceeding 10 lakh rupees.
Dr. Pandey emphasized that the operation is a response to government orders aimed at combating illegal transport and ensuring passenger safety. He made it clear that operators violating rules will face strict consequences.
The Transport Department reiterated that the safety of passengers is its top priority. In light of the recent gang rape incident, there has been increased vigilance in monitoring and checking public transport. As part of Operation Kavach 2.0, inspections of permits, routes, taxes, and operational rules have been intensified.
Dr. Pandey warned vehicle operators that any disregard for passenger safety, permit conditions, and government revenue will not be tolerated. The enforcement teams will continue to carry out inspections, taking actions ranging from issuing fines to seizing vehicles when violations are detected.
