Major Changes Announced for Teacher Recruitment Exam in Bihar

Patna, August 19: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced significant updates regarding the Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE) 4.0, aimed at hiring teachers for primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools.

According to the notification, recruitment has been announced for 32,388 teaching positions. However, the official BPSC exam calendar mentions a total of 46,595 vacancies for TRE-4. Therefore, candidates should confirm the final number of positions and the details regarding categories and subjects through the detailed recruitment advertisement from the commission.

The TRE-4 exam is scheduled to take place from September 22 to September 27, 2026. The commission may release a detailed exam schedule based on shifts and subjects separately.

A key change in TRE 4.0 is the introduction of a preliminary test (PT) followed by the main exam. This alters the selection process from previous BPSC teacher recruitment exams, where candidates primarily took a single written test.

Reports suggest that the exam will likely be conducted in an offline OMR-based format. Therefore, candidates must prepare for both stages of the selection process.

Eligibility criteria vary based on teaching level and subject. Candidates must possess the specified academic and professional qualifications for the relevant positions.

For certain positions, qualifying in the CTET or STET is mandatory. For primary teacher roles, candidates need to have the required academic and professional qualifications along with CTET Paper-I or STET Paper-I.

Candidates applying for middle, secondary, or higher secondary positions must meet the respective academic, professional, and TET requirements.

The general age limit is set between 18 and 42 years, with relaxations for reserved categories as per government regulations. Candidates should check the detailed advertisement for the correct age limits based on their category and position before applying.

The online application process will commence on September 1, 2026, and will close on September 30, 2026. Once the application window opens, candidates should complete the application process through the official BPSC portal and carefully review the detailed notification for qualifications, fees, age limits, and other requirements.
