Major Breakthrough in Tulsi Mahto Murder Case: Three Arrested

Hazaribagh, March 8: In a significant development, police in Hazaribagh district have made substantial progress in the murder case of Tulsi Mahto. Authorities have arrested three suspects and recovered the weapon used in the crime.

On March 2, Tulsi Mahto was brutally murdered in the Barkagaon (Sikri OP) police jurisdiction, where he was attacked with a sharp weapon. After the murder, the perpetrators attempted to conceal evidence by disposing of the body near a pond.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged by the victim’s wife on March 4 at the Barkagaon police station. Recognizing the seriousness of the case, a special team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pawan Kumar. This team acted swiftly, investigating the case and apprehending all three suspects in a short time.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed a longstanding dispute with Tulsi Mahto over land, which had escalated into personal animosity. Approximately three months prior, Tulsi’s father had passed away, leaving him as the sole member of the household. The suspects plotted his murder to seize his land.

As part of their plan, the suspects lured Tulsi to Meena Mahto’s house under the pretext of a meal. Once there, they excessively intoxicated him. Later that night, as he was returning home, they pushed him down and collectively restrained him. They then used an iron weapon, known as chilhothi, to slit his throat. To hide their crime, they discarded his body by the pond.

The arrested individuals, Surendra Mahto, Meena Mahto, and Basudev Mahto, all residents of Parnadi, Sikri, within the Barkagaon police jurisdiction, have been taken into custody. Police have also seized the iron weapon used in the murder, a mobile phone, and other items from the suspects.
