Former Assistant Sentenced to Four Years for Fraud at Oriental Insurance Company

Ghaziabad, March 12: A CBI court in Ghaziabad has sentenced Davinder Singh, a former assistant at Oriental Insurance Company Limited, to four years of rigorous imprisonment for committing fraud against the company. The court also imposed a fine of ₹35,000 on the accused.

According to the CBI, the First Information Report (FIR) was registered on June 29, 2018. The investigation revealed that between 2014 and 2016, Davinder Singh, who was stationed at the Meerut office of Oriental Insurance Company Limited, conspired with other individuals to defraud the company. Together, they embezzled approximately ₹36,11,059.

The CBI’s press release indicated that the accused transferred the fraudulently obtained funds into his and a friend’s bank accounts, causing a financial loss of around ₹36.11 lakh to the company. However, after the CBI registered the case, the accused returned the full amount of ₹36,11,059 to the Oriental Insurance Company Limited, Divisional Office Meerut.

The press note further stated that after a thorough investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet on May 31, 2021. Subsequently, the trial court framed charges against Davinder Singh on January 6, 2023.

During the hearing, the accused filed a guilty plea in the competent court in Ghaziabad, admitting his crime. The court accepted his plea, found him guilty, and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment along with a fine on March 12, 2026.
