Major Anti-Drug Campaign in Baramulla Dismantles Wild Cannabis Cultivation

Baramulla, May 17: The police in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their anti-drug campaign. As part of this initiative, a comprehensive operation was conducted in Baramulla to eradicate wild cannabis. Police officials provided details about this operation on Sunday.

Officials stated that under the “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” campaign, Baramulla police have been actively working against drug abuse and illegal drug cultivation. They specifically targeted areas like Sochipora and Asthan Mohalla in Kreeri to destroy wild cannabis.

During the operation, police teams eliminated large patches of wild cannabis growing in open fields and nearby land. This campaign received strong support from local residents and civil society members, reflecting a growing community involvement in the fight against drug threats.

This initiative is part of Baramulla police’s ongoing efforts to eliminate all potential sources that promote drug abuse, particularly among the youth. During the operation, police officials engaged with local residents, urging them to remain vigilant and report any illegal cultivation or drug-related activities in their areas.

Authorities reiterated their firm commitment to creating a drug-free society and ensuring strict action against all elements involved in promoting drugs in any form.

Notably, recently, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the “Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir” campaign in Baramulla. He assured the public that the administration would pursue every rupee, asset, and fake company of drug traffickers and impose severe penalties on those ruining the future of the youth.

The Lieutenant Governor urged schools, mosques, temples, gurdwaras, and NGOs to dedicate one hour each week to strengthen this initiative through awareness. He emphasized that this would act as an early warning system, monitoring areas at risk of drug abuse and transforming them into completely drug-free zones.
