Major Administrative Reshuffle in Jammu and Kashmir: Transfers of IAS and JKAS Officers Announced

Jammu, March 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced significant transfers and appointments of several IAS and JKAS officers. This decision was made on Monday, with new departments and additional responsibilities assigned to the officials.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the government has mandated a series of transfers and appointments of IAS and JKAS officers with immediate effect for the betterment of administration.

As per government order number 501-JK(GAD) 2026, dated March 30, new officials have been appointed in several key departments. These include Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs; Agricultural Production; Information; and Tourism.

Nazim Jai Khan has been appointed as the Director of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in Kashmir. Meanwhile, Dr. Sagar Doifode Dattatreya has been transferred to the Agricultural Production Department as Special Secretary, with additional responsibilities under HAPD and JKCIP.

Shreya Singhal will also take on the additional charge of Director of Information starting April 1. Amit Gupta has been appointed as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Pahalgam. Rajesh Kumar Shavan has been designated as the Director of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department in Jammu.

This order, issued by the government’s Commissioner/Secretary M. Raju, also includes directives regarding the reassignment of several officials and their release from additional charges.

It is noteworthy that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha holds the authority for the transfer and appointment of IAS/IPAS officers in Jammu and Kashmir. Law and order, as well as security arrangements, fall directly under the control of the Lieutenant Governor. Any officer in the local revenue department with magistrate powers, who oversees law and order matters, is also appointed by the Lieutenant Governor.
