Guwahati, March 31: The third match of the Indian Premier League 2026 took place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, featuring Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Batting first, CSK struggled and was bowled out for just 127 runs.
RR won the toss and opted to field, taking full advantage of the moisture on the pitch due to rain. Their bowlers wreaked havoc on CSK’s batting lineup. Both fast bowlers and spinners proved difficult for CSK’s batsmen to handle.
Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to provide a solid start, both dismissed for just 6 runs. Ayush Mhatre, batting at number three, couldn’t open his account, while Matthew Short managed only 2 runs. None of the top four batsmen reached double figures, leading to a series of regular wickets. CSK collapsed to 127 runs in just 19.4 overs.
Jamie Overton, who came in at number eight, fought valiantly for the team. He scored 43 runs off 36 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes, helping CSK reach their final total. Before being run out on the fourth ball of the last over, Overton shared a crucial 33-run partnership for the tenth wicket with Anshul Kamboj, who remained not out on 7. Additionally, Sarfaraz Khan contributed 17 runs, while Karthik Sharma added 18.
Ravindra Jadeja, a former CSK all-rounder who joined RR, made an immediate impact in his first match against his old team. He took two significant wickets in a single over, dismissing Shivam Dube and Sarfaraz Khan.
For Rajasthan Royals, Jofra Archer claimed 2 wickets for 19 runs in 4 overs, while Nandre Burger took 2 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja also took 2 wickets for 18 runs in 3 overs. Brijesh Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, and Ravi Bishnoi each picked up 1 wicket.
