
Beijing, March 31: Chinese Vice President Han Cheng visited Seychelles from March 28 to 30 at the invitation of Vice President Sebastian Pillay. During his stay in Victoria, he met with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie, engaged in discussions with Vice President Pillay, and participated in a reception marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Seychelles.
During his meeting with Herminie, Han conveyed warm wishes and congratulations from President Xi Jinping. He noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Seychelles. The relationship serves as a model of genuine friendship, mutual coexistence, reciprocal support, and cooperative benefits between countries of different sizes. At the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the ties were elevated to a strategic partnership level. The purpose of Han’s current visit is to implement significant agreements reached by the two heads of state and to deepen the strategic partnership between the nations.
Herminie requested Han to extend heartfelt greetings and congratulations to President Xi Jinping. He emphasized that Seychelles-China relations are currently at their highest historical level. Seychelles firmly adheres to the One-China policy and greatly appreciates the major global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. The nation looks forward to deepening cooperation with China across various sectors and promoting the comprehensive development of Seychelles-China relations.
In discussions with Pillay, Han stated that exchanges between the heads of state play a crucial guiding role in bilateral relations. Both sides should strengthen exchanges at all levels to continuously enhance political mutual trust. China supports Seychelles’ commitment to independence and self-reliance, as well as its modernization path tailored to national conditions. Both parties should reinforce strategic alignment and seize opportunities for cooperation.
Pillay remarked that Seychelles-China cooperation is maintaining a positive momentum, fully reflecting the spirit of brotherhood. Seychelles is eager to learn from the governance experience of the Communist Party of China and to further deepen exchanges and cooperation across various fields. The nation hopes to enjoy the benefits of a zero-tariff policy and become a transit point for Chinese goods entering the African market.
