Maharashtra Government Selects 11,000 Agniveers, Promises Employment Post Retirement: Minister Shambhuraj Desai

Mumbai, March 6: The Maharashtra government has taken a significant step for youth concerned about employment after being selected under the Agniveer scheme. Minister Shambhuraj Desai assured that jobs would be provided even after four years of service. A study group has been formed for this purpose.

Minister Desai stated in the Legislative Council that 11,000 youths from Maharashtra have been selected for the central government’s Agniveer scheme. Of these, 25 percent (approximately 2,750) will be absorbed into various central government departments after completing four years of service. To provide employment opportunities for the remaining 75 percent, the state government has established a study group, which will submit its report next month. A final decision will be made thereafter.

Desai mentioned that a study group comprising senior military officials has been formed for the retiring youths. After receiving the group’s report, it will be examined whether these individuals can be integrated into various state departments, such as Home Guards and Forest Department security forces, in consultation with the respective ministers. Further actions will be taken with the Chief Minister’s approval.

Desai clarified that the state government is making every possible effort to ensure that most youths receive re-employment after completing four years of service under the Agniveer scheme. The discussion in the Legislative Council highlights the government’s seriousness regarding the future of these youths.

Concerns about employment after retirement are prevalent among youths recruited under the Agniveer scheme. The opposition has consistently targeted the government on this issue. In response to these concerns and opposition queries, the Maharashtra government has initiated efforts to ensure that youths recruited under Agniveer do not face employment challenges.
