Mumbai, June 5: The Maharashtra government, led by Devendra Fadnavis, has announced a significant decision to provide educational facilities and concessions to students from the Maratha community, similar to those available to Other Backward Classes (OBC). This move is seen as a crucial relief for the Maratha community.
The government has decided to extend various educational schemes and benefits, previously exclusive to OBC students, to Maratha students as well. Eight major schemes will be implemented specifically for the Maratha community.
According to the decision, scholarships for students after secondary education (10th grade), as well as scholarship schemes for secondary and higher secondary students, will now be available to Maratha students. Additionally, benefits from the motor vehicle driver and conductor training scheme will also be extended to them.
Moreover, Maratha students will have access to 16 types of reimbursement-related schemes that are currently available to eligible OBC students.
The government clarified that residents of Maharashtra who enroll in grant-in-aid and non-grant-in-aid vocational courses outside the state will also be included under these schemes.
Importantly, all courses for which OBC students are eligible for educational concessions will now also be available to Maratha students.
The government has provided relief to students who secure admissions at the institutional level after the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) is completed. Maratha students enrolling in institutions approved by the admission regulatory committee will benefit from educational concessions similar to those of OBC students.
According to the government order, all current educational facilities and concessions available to the OBC category, as well as any new facilities implemented in the future, will automatically apply to Maratha students until further notice.
This decision by the state government is considered a significant step towards making higher education and vocational training more accessible for Maratha students. It is expected to benefit thousands of students through scholarships, fee reimbursements, and other educational support schemes.
