Maharashtra Deputy CM Mourns the Loss of Veteran Actor Nana Patekar

Mumbai, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, expressed profound sorrow over the passing of renowned actor Nana Patekar on Thursday. Shinde remarked that Patekar’s death represents a significant loss not only to the film industry but also to the pride of Maharashtra.

Shinde stated that both the state and the nation have lost a sensitive and powerful actor. “Today, we mourn the loss of Maharashtra’s pride and the respect of Marathi people. The bold and outspoken voice of Maharashtra has fallen silent. I have lost a true friend with a big heart. This loss can never be compensated. An artist like him is born only once in a century,” he said. He also mentioned Patekar’s final dream of starting a school for children in Kashmir, emphasizing his commitment to help realize this vision as a fitting tribute to the late actor.

The Deputy CM praised Patekar for carving out a unique identity in the Hindi film industry solely through his talent, without any godfathers. “Bollywood bowed before his name, yet he proudly upheld the dignity and spirit of Marathi people,” Shinde noted. He highlighted Patekar’s philanthropic efforts through the “Nana Foundation,” which aimed to alleviate the suffering of farmers facing drought.

State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also honored Patekar, stating that his candidness and fearlessness defined his character. “Since I became Chief Minister, I have always seen a sensitive human being in him. When we launched the ‘Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan,’ Nana stepped forward to support it. Together with Makrand Anaspure, he established the ‘Nana Foundation’ and worked directly in villages, helping farmers and extending a hand during times of drought. Even this year, as we faced drought, Nana never stepped back—yet he has left us so suddenly. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him and share in the grief of his family and fans,” Fadnavis remarked.

He further added that Patekar was not only a remarkable actor but also a wonderful person. “He contributed significantly to both Marathi and Hindi cinema, creating a lasting legacy. His portrayal of a patriot resonated deeply with audiences. From ‘Kranti Veer’ to ‘Natsamrat,’ he wove a tapestry of powerful performances that are unmatched. His departure as an actor is a tremendous loss.”
