
Bhopal, May 18: The Madhya Pradesh government has successfully purchased over 8.77 million metric tons of wheat from more than 1.21 million farmers during the current Rabi procurement season. This announcement was made by the state’s Consumer Protection Minister, Govind Singh Rajput, on Monday.
The minister stated that wheat procurement will continue until May 23, and the department is closely monitoring the process to prevent any inconvenience for farmers at the procurement centers.
Rajput confirmed that the wheat procurement process is being monitored hourly to ensure smooth operations. According to the Food Department, a total of 12,10,785 registered farmers have contributed to the procurement of 87,71,485 metric tons of wheat so far.
He also mentioned that the government has transported 75,95,792 metric tons of wheat purchased from the procurement centers. To expedite the purchasing process and reduce waiting times for farmers, several measures have been implemented.
The issuance time for weight slips has been extended from 6 PM to 10 PM, and the final date for bill issuance has been moved to midnight. Procurement activities are conducted six days a week, from Monday to Saturday.
Additionally, the number of scales at each procurement center has been increased from four to six. District administrations have also been granted the authority to further increase the number of scales if necessary.
Rajput emphasized that these steps have been taken to minimize delays for farmers at the procurement centers. The state government is purchasing wheat at a rate of ₹2,625 per quintal, which includes a minimum support price of ₹2,585 per quintal and a state bonus of ₹40 per quintal.
So far, farmers have received payments totaling ₹10,19,138 crore under this procurement campaign.
